We are so thankful for the beautiful, fall-like, weather we are having in the Northeast. What a blessing to feel cool breezes and enjoy curling up under a blanket in the evening.
My husband was busy yesterday fixing an exhaust pipe on our pellet stove so that if the power should go out to our home, then our home will not fill up with smoke. The pellet stove was new last year and as funny as it sounds the heat from it is such a comfort to me. I stayed warmer last winter than I have in years with oil heat. We can regulate the heat on it with a thermostat and it will just kick on whenever it gets below the temperature that you have it set on.
It also only has to be cleaned about once a month! It is very efficient and has little ash.
Church was uplifting today. We are studying Daniel. Our pastor had us also read a verse that is very close to me and has encouraged me when the "going gets tough". It is 2 Kings 6:8-17
8 Now the king of Aram was at war with Israel. After conferring with his officers, he said, "I will set up my camp in such and such a place."
9 The man of God sent word to the king of Israel: "Beware of passing that place, because the Arameans are going down there." 10 So the king of Israel checked on the place indicated by the man of God. Time and again Elisha warned the king, so that he was on his guard in such places.
11 This enraged the king of Aram. He summoned his officers and demanded of them, "Will you not tell me which of us is on the side of the king of Israel?"
12 "None of us, my lord the king," said one of his officers, "but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom."
13 "Go, find out where he is," the king ordered, "so I can send men and capture him." The report came back: "He is in Dothan." 14 Then he sent horses and chariots and a strong force there. They went by night and surrounded the city.
15 When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. "Oh, my lord, what shall we do?" the servant asked.
16 "Don't be afraid," the prophet answered. "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them."
17 And Elisha prayed, "O LORD, open his eyes so he may see." Then the LORD opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
It is so comforting to know that even though we cannot see God protecting us, he is always there. We must just believe that and have faith that God knows best.
Kids are tucked into bed and everything is quiet here. I am happy that my hubby and children have tomorrow off from work/school. I might go shopping for a maternity dress for a wedding that I am attending next weekend. I am not a mall shopper, but that is the only place around here that sells maternity clothing.
I am wondering if any of you would be willing to tell me how you get your blogs to look so nice. I'm fairly new to this and wanted to change the look of my blog, but don't know where to start. Also, if you could share with me your views on posting photos of you and your families. I would love to do that, but hesitate to because of privacy issues and misuse issues with the photos.
I'm hoping that you all are enjoying your families during this holiday weekend.
With hope and love,
Cheryl
Your stove sounds lovely. It is cold here today and I am just home from a long day at work in the hospital. I could do with a cup of tea next to it!
ReplyDeleteWhen I started my blog in 2005 I thought only family would look at it so I posted photos and names of us and our kids. I had no idea that 4 years later people from many different countries would read it. Although I never stopped to make a choice on whether to share our private info I can honestly say that I have never been aware of any bad from doing so. I dont post photos of my kids running around without clothes or anything that might be misused.
In fact the only issue we have ever had was my 11 yr old daughter having the class bully find out about the blog and laugh at images of her pulling silly faces on it. Not photos she would have chosen to show this classmate but the damage was done. In the end I agreed that Sian had a choice. A: we carry on with the blog as normal or B: we try to password protect it. I explained that if we password protected it and she told even one friend then in time this other girl may get access to it again. We talked about being resiliant and that this girl would always find something to tease others about. Would we sacrifice our blog because of her?
Instead we agreed that any post involving my 11 yr old could be checked by her before posting and that I would respect her opinion of which photos of her she was comfortable with me uploading. We have had no problems since.
I hope this helps. As for making the blog look pretty, I am not brave enough to move away from the basic layout we chose 4 years ago so I look forward to seeing what hints other readers give...
